This thesis uncovers the significance of vernacular architecture and its valuable components that we could benefit from in today’s western society. It started out with the question; How can the architecture of our time regain the lost connection to earth and habitat?

The research explores the approach to architecture, its relationship with the landscape and how natural environment had transformed in historical, cultural, and spatial aspects. It is about reintroducing a new approach to present a new vernacular and retrieve the old cultural past to create a unique response to environmental challenges. The thesis presents my journey of examining the past as a guidance to learn, explores living in the present and experiencing the existence and it is complete by getting motivated by the future to inspire. This journey through the past, present and the future is translated into three different levels; release, rebuild and renew where various types of research methods are divided in.
